PHILIPPE BOUVERET‘s water thermometer
Following on from the mercury thermometer (now prohibited because of its dangers to human health and the environment) and the alcohol thermometer, discover the first water thermometer: Therm’eau®.
Inside a rigid graduated tube filled with distilled water, a “Cartesian diver” is free to move up or down. The diver is a container with an air bubble inside. The water inside the diver communicates with the water in the tube, which – dilating under the effect of the temperature – changes the amount of water inside the diver. The red indicator inside the diver very clearly indicates the ambient temperature as it moves along the graduated scale.
A chain fixed to the base of the diver compensates for the upward movement of the diver, enabling it to stay finely balanced opposite the graduation indicating the correct temperature.
Readings are reversed compared with a conventional thermometer: the colder it gets, the higher the indicator. Designed for indoor use, the thermometer’s graduation scale ranges from 14 to 36 degrees Celsius.
Cleaning and safety
The THERM’EAU, made of glass and aluminium, requires no special cleaning. Just use soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive products. The thermometer contains only distilled water and is therefore risk-free for human health and the environment. It is leaktight and requires no maintenance, no electricity and no topping up. It must not be allowed to freeze, but will withstand temperatures higher than 36°C.
The thermometer is delivered in a crush-resistant cardboard tube.
